Fibroid Causing Heavy Menstrual Bleeding

Fibroid After D&C For Miscarriage

Symptoms

A 34 year old woman presented with heavy menstrual bleeding. She had previously had a D&C for miscarriage.

Diagnosis

A Pelvic Ultrasound revealed a 3cm submucosal fibroid. At hysteroscopy she was noted to have a thick band in the uterine cavity (partial Ashermann's Syndrome). This presumably occurred following the D&C.

Procedure

The fibroid was resected and the thick band divided.

Outcome

Her fertility was restored to normal.

Hysteroscopic view of the uterine cavity showing submucosal fibroid (on the floor) and thick band (above this)

The band is divided

Hysteroscopic view of the normal uterine cavity at the end of the operation. The fibroid has been resected and the band has been divided
