Torrential Menorrhagia

Heavy Bleeding - Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy

Symptoms

A 42 year old woman presented with torrential menorrhagia (extremely heavy bleeding). She was seeking a second opinion.

Diagnosis

She had previously had an Endometrial Ablation. Another gynaecologist had recommended an Open Hysterectomy.

Procedure

She subsequently had a Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy.

Outcome

She made an excellent recovery and was very satisfied with the result.

The uterus is seen laparoscopically

The vaginal vault has been closed with two sutures. Both normal ovaries remain

The ovaries are conserved

A photograph of the uterus showing a large fibroid which had grown into the cavity.
